Archaeological excavations in Israel's northern city of Tiberias are exposing an ancient Roman Theater, Wednesday, March 4, 2009. This excavation began on January 22nd and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. So far a monumental staircase has been uncovered that leads to a building with a mosaic floor on which there are Greek dedicatory inscriptions that apparently date to the 3rd or 4th centuries CE. .Two construction phases have been discerned in the theater. The first probably dates to the time when the city was founded and the second is from the 2nd or 3rd century CE, when the theater was significantly enlarged. Photo By: Gil Eliyahu / JINI
