At Hezekiah's Tunnel, or the Silwam Tunnel at the "City of David" national park near the East Jerusalem village of Silwan on Feb' 1, 2009. Hezekiah's Tunne is a tunnel that was dug underneath the Ophel in Jerusalem about 701 BC during the reign of Hezekiah..The tunne, leading from the Gihon Spring to the Pool of Silwam, was designed to act as an aqueduct to provide Jerusalem with water during an impending siege by the Assyrians, led by Sennacherib. "City of David" excavation is funded primarily by the "Elad foundation" driven by a Jewish religious ideology known for its controversial attempts to buy land in east Jerusalem, and clear them of their Arab inhabitants, and re occupy them with Jewish settlers. In the "City of David" a national park, an archaeological dig is being conducted. villagers say that digs extend underneath their homes. the park, along with its dig site, is located in the middle of the village silwan, and literally engulfs several homes who's owners are allowed to walk through the site in order to enter their houses.
