The draining of Lake Hula in the 1950’s apparently caused the (near) extinction of the “Discoglossus Nigriventer” frog, which was declared extinct in 1996 by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN). Even so, Israel had continued to list it in its “Endagered Species” listings, in hope that it may not have been completely eliminated, as it turns out was the case. Various expeditions have attempted to locate the frog in the Hula Lake area over the years, unsuccessful until today. Photo By: Gil Eliyahu / JINI – ISRAEL OUT -
